A new artistic agenda

My attention is focused today on Pitika Ntuli’s new exhibition. Azibuyele Emasiweni is a powerful artistic statement that has made great use of the new opportunities offered by Covid-19 lock down restrictions.

From a visual art perspective, Azibuyele Emasiweni is a solo show, since it features bone sculptures created by Ntuli. He has however also invited artists from other art forms and thought leaders to contribute creative responses to his work.

The Melrose Gallery is hosting this tremendous, multilayered creative presentation on its website. Ruzy Rusike has done an excellent job as the show’s curator.

I have contributed a recorded performance of a new song – Our Quest for Healing, as a response to Pitika’s piece called ‘Under the shadow of a Fly whisk, We Dream to Heal the Land’. Other contributions are made by Ngugi wa Thiongo, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Sibongile Khumalo, amongst many others.
