Communication and risk

Effective communication is usually learnt through imitation. Perhaps this is a reason why young children find it easier to be multilingual than those at other stages of development or growth.

Having said this, there should be a point at which the personal angle takes over from orthodox approaches to being seen or heard.

The most astute communicators of the times we live in are shifting the goalposts regarding their ways and means of getting messages across.

As usual, many others have to unlearn the old methods, to keep up with the rapid changes as they occur. Change can often be uncomfortable and uncertain.

Perhaps it is worth remembering the fact that traditions and old ways of doing things were new at one point or another in history. The communicators who provided bodies of work that are revered and preserved in our heritages also had to take risks and chances.
